Collaboration TEE with Japanese Artist Tatsuya Yokosaka

We invited Japanese artist Tatsuya Yokosaka to collaborate with us because we wanted to express the true essence of running: the joy of simply moving forward.

Running is not only about chasing speed or personal records. It is about running at your own pace, sharing a conversation while moving alongside someone, or following your instincts and letting your body move freely. Each of these experiences represents what running means to us.

Yokosaka’s artwork is inspired by the freedom of imagination born from childhood memories and a playful spirit. His unique world reminds us of the pure feeling we had as children—when we were completely absorbed in races and games of tag.

Through this artwork, inspired by the transforming robots that fascinated him as a child, we hope to share a message:

“Make running more free. Make running more fun.”

That is the spirit we have infused into this collaboration.

Tatsuya Yokosaka

Born in 1981 in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Currently based in Tokyo.

Inspired by the techniques of cel animation, Yokosaka creates works by layering illustrations painted on transparent film over painted canvas backgrounds.

He first presented this approach in 2021 with Tokyo Motor Pool 1.5.

Drawing inspiration from his own formative experiences, he continues to explore immersive expressions through motifs rooted in personal memories.

Why We Chose Four-Color Separation Printing

For this collaboration, we selected a silkscreen four-color separation printing technique, layering each of the four CMYK plates one color at a time.

Although this process requires significant time and craftsmanship, the careful layering creates rich colors, delicate tonal gradations, and allows the intricate details of the artwork to be beautifully reproduced. Its exceptional durability is another unique advantage of this technique.

In contrast, inkjet printing applies ink directly onto the fabric without using printing plates, making it suitable for small production runs and shorter lead times. However, the texture and character of the finished print differ.

Our goal was not simply to print a graphic, but to deliver the colors and textures that define Tatsuya Yokosaka’s artwork as faithfully as possible.

Not just printing the artwork, but delivering the artwork itself.

That is why we chose four-color separation printing.

Natural Feel with Excellent Moisture Absorption and Quick-Drying Performance

We selected a high-gauge polyester jersey fabric with a natural texture that can easily be mistaken for 100% cotton.

Along with its supple and soft touch, its excellent moisture absorption and quick-drying properties maintain a smooth, dry feel during wear.

Even for those who dislike the synthetic feel often associated with sportswear, this fabric provides a sensation similar to natural fibers, seamlessly bridging the boundary between running apparel and everyday clothing.

Anti-Pilling Function

This fabric uses MVS yarn, a specially structured yarn that maintains an almost untwisted core while applying stronger twists toward the outer surface, reducing the formation of loose fibers.

This helps prevent pilling and provides excellent durability against repeated wear and washing. The fabric maintains a clean appearance over a long period of time.

UV Protection Function (90% UV Shielding Rate)

Compared with natural fibers such as cotton and linen, polyester has a lower tendency to allow ultraviolet rays to pass through.

By utilizing this characteristic, the fabric achieves a UV shielding rate of 90%.

Even under the strong sunlight of midsummer, it helps reduce UV exposure and protect the skin during outdoor running.
