Collaboration TEE with Japanese Artist Tatsuya Yokosaka
We invited Japanese artist Tatsuya Yokosaka to collaborate with us because we wanted to express the true essence of running: the joy found at its origin.
Running is not only about pursuing speed or personal records. It is about running at your own pace, sharing a conversation while moving alongside someone, or simply following your instincts and moving freely. Each of these moments represents an important part of what running means to us.
Yokosaka’s artwork is filled with free and imaginative ideas born from childhood memories and a playful spirit. His unique world brings back the pure feeling we had as children—when we were completely absorbed in running races, playing tag, and moving simply for the joy of it.
Through artwork inspired by the transforming robots that fascinated him as a child, this collaboration carries our message:
“Make running more free. Make running more fun.”
That is the spirit we have infused into this piece.
Tatsuya Yokosaka
Born in 1981 in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Currently based in Tokyo.
Inspired by the techniques of cel animation, Yokosaka creates works by layering illustrations drawn on transparent film over painted canvas backgrounds.
He presented this approach in 2021 at Tokyo Motor Pool 1.5.
Using motifs rooted in his own formative experiences, he continues to explore immersive forms of expression through his artwork.
Why We Chose Four-Color Separation Printing
For this collaboration, we selected a silkscreen four-color separation printing technique, layering each of the four CMYK plates one color at a time.
Although this method requires considerable time and craftsmanship, the accumulation of each layer creates rich colors, delicate gradations, and allows the intricate details of the artwork to be reproduced beautifully. Its exceptional durability is another unique advantage of this technique.
In contrast, inkjet printing applies ink directly onto fabric without the use of printing plates. While it is suitable for small production runs and shorter lead times, the texture and character of the finished print are different.
Our goal was not simply to print a graphic, but to deliver the colors and textures that define Tatsuya Yokosaka’s artwork as faithfully as possible.
Not just printing the artwork, but delivering the artwork itself.
That is why we chose four-color separation printing.
High-Performance Quick-Drying Fabric
We use AIR DOTT® mesh fabric featuring excellent breathability and made with COOLMAX® EcoMade fibers from Lycra.
COOLMAX®’s uniquely shaped fibers enhance capillary action, quickly drawing sweat away from the skin and dispersing it across the surface of the fabric. Its superior moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties accelerate evaporation.
In addition, the cooling effect created through evaporation, combined with the high breathability of AIR DOTT® mesh, helps reduce heat buildup inside the garment while maintaining a cool, dry, and comfortable feel.
It keeps you in optimal condition throughout your run.
Merino Wool Blend Rib Designed for Neckline Comfort
For the neckline area, where sweat tends to accumulate, we use a rib fabric made with 53% non-mulesed Australian merino wool and 47% polyester containing 30% COOLMAX®.
The natural antibacterial and odor-resistant properties of merino wool, along with its smooth feel against the skin, are combined with COOLMAX®’s excellent moisture-wicking and quick-drying performance.
Even during high-sweat activities, it helps keep the neckline dry and comfortable.
Carefully Engineered Length Design
The slightly extended body length creates a balanced silhouette when paired with running tights, while also adapting naturally to a wide range of styling options.
Long side slits improve ventilation during movement and enhance accessibility to pants pockets.
This carefully considered design provides comfort and freedom of movement without interfering with your stride while running.
COOLMAX® EcoMade|Circular Recycled Polyester
COOLMAX® EcoMade fibers are recycled polyester fibers made from 100% textile waste, including leftover fabrics, unused yarn, and cutting scraps.
Textile materials that would otherwise be discarded or sent to landfill are collected and regenerated as valuable resources.
The material is recycled through the following circular process:
Collection → Depolymerization & Purification → Pelletization → Fiber Production → Fabric Manufacturing → Garment Production
Through this circular production process, the use of new petroleum-based raw materials is reduced while creating high-quality regenerated fibers.
After recycling, the fibers retain functional performance equivalent to polyester made from virgin materials, delivering comparable moisture-wicking and quick-drying capabilities.
